Sonora, Ca — Tuolumne County is planning to submit a grant proposal to the Corrections Standards Authority in hopes of receiving state funding to construct a Juvenile Detention Facility.
Chief Probation Officer Shirlee Juhl told the Board of Supervisors Tuesday that proposals for funding are due to the CSA by January 6th. The facility has a price tag of $21 million and would likely be built on the land set aside for a new jail on Old Wards Ferry Rd. The County is planning to request $16 million from the CSA, and then come up with the remaining $5 million locally.
Tuolumne County had been in talks with Calaveras County over the past year in hopes of making this a joint project, but the Calaveras Supervisors voted last week to not participate.
The Tuolumne County Supervisors will further discuss the issue next week.
