Manteca Chase Suspect Identified

Angels Camp, CA — The individual who led Manteca police and Highway Patrol officers on a Tuesday morning chase that reached 90-100 mph has been identified as 25 year old Anthony Lowery of Manteca.

The chase originated in Manteca and entered Calaveras County on Hwy 4. Lowery then led law enforcement officers through Angels Camp. He was able to avoid spike strips on the one hour 65 mile chase before finally being stopped on Hwy 49 by a Manteca police officer who used his vehicle to spin the black Chevrolet pickup out of control.

The engagement began when Manteca police received a report of an individual acting suspiciously at a grocery store. The chase began when they attempted to make contact with the suspect.

Lowery was arrested and charged with driving-under-the-influence, evading peace officers and obstructing an officer.

This case may qualify to be tried under a 2007 California law that makes it a felony to cross over into oncoming traffic during a pursuit.
