Sonora, CA — The creation of a middle college program is currently on the drawing board for Sonora High School and Columbia College.
The college campus classes would be designed for students whose needs are not being met through traditional high school programs and courses. Superintendent Rob Gaskill says the program is traditionally orchestrated in urban and not rural areas.
Students would be expected to fulfill their high school graduation requirements and also earn college credit by taking a combination of three high school courses and college electives each year on the Columbia College campus.
Enrollment would be limited to 30 juniors and 30 seniors. Non-Sonora High School students would also be eligible to participate in the program.
A parent and student information night for middle college will be held on Wednesday, January 17 from seven until 8:30pm in the Sonora High School Library, 430 N. Washington Street in Sonora.
