Sonora, CA — By a 3-2 vote Monday afternoon, Fourth District Supervisor Mark Thornton was handed the gavel to serve as the chairperson for the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors for the coming year.
Fifth District Supervisor Dick Pland nominated Thornton and was seconded by new District Three Supervisor Teri Murrison. Second District Supervisor Paolo Maffei then nominated outgoing Chairperson Liz Bass for another term.
When it came to the vote it was Pland, Murrison and Thornton for Thornton and Maffei and Bass for Bass.
Thornton will handle the gavel for the initial time Tuesday morning when the board holds its first 2007 meeting.
