Angels Camp, CA — Athletes playing sports at Bret Harte High School can have whatever length hair they want as long as it doesn´t pose a safety risk.
That was the decision of the Bret Harte Union High School District Board of Directors Friday night.
Due to the efforts of one Bret Harte High School student basketball player, the directors reconsidered an old grooming policy that said male athletes´ hair must be cut to at least the top-of-the-collar.
Senior Hannon Smith requested the change regarding hair length after he was banned from playing basketball because of his long hair.
The new policy states,An athlete´s hair must be clean, neatly groomed, and by the nature of the style, does not create a distraction. Hair must be neatly restrained out of eyes and secured in such a way as to maintain visibility of jersey numbers.”
