Sonora, CA — This morning employees at the Albertson´s store in the Junction Shopping Center were told that the facility will close on February 17th.
Stacia Levenfeld, the company´s VP of Corporate Communications, was quoted as saying,Unfortunately there are no other Albertson´s stores in the bargaining area of the union contract, so at this time we will not be able to relocate associates.”
Levenfeld adds, however, that the company has reached out to the union in order to discuss employee issues pertinent to the store´s closing.
On November 27th, Save Mart Supermarkets announced that it will acquire 132 Albertson´s stores in northern California and northern Nevada. The transaction is not yet complete. Albertson´s is also closing a store in Orville prior to turning the operation over to Save Mart.
A liquidation sale at the Sonora Albertson´s store will begin tomorrow.
