Sonora, CA– Only a few cars remain in the Albertsons´ parking lot as employees officially closed the grocery store today.
Albertson´s Grocery Manager, Brian Hurley describes the last week of business as,fast and furious” as customers filled their grocery baskets with marked down items and waited in line for over 45 minutes.
Hurley adds that the community has offered a great amount of support. Employees received the news that the store would be closing on February 7th.
On November 27th Save Mart Supermarkets announced it will acquire 132 Albertson´s stores in northern California and northern Nevada. However Albertson´s pulled the Sonora and Oroville, CA stores from the deal. According to Save Mart President Bob Spangler, had Save Mart taken control of the Alberton´s story it would have remained open to the public.
