Calaveras Relay Sets Record Year

Angels Camp, CA — On the heels of a record-making year, organizers of the Calaveras Relay For Life are gearing up once again.

The Relay for Life is an annual event in support of the American Cancer Society.

In 2006, Calaveras was among the top ten highest earning events per capita, raising more than $200,000. Similar size counties typically bring in $1 per capita, while Calaveras brought in $4.62 per capita

This year´s event will take place April 28 and 29 at Bret Harte High School. There will be games, prizes, entertainment, food and drawings.

During the relay teams must have at least one team member on the track at all times for 24 hours. The idea is that cancer never sleeps, so there is no finish line until a cure is found.

According to the American Cancer Society, one in two men and one in three women will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime.
