TuCare Upset About Emigrant Check Dams Decision

Sonora, CA — TuCare is upset that the US Forest Service has dropped its appeal to a federal judges ruling that calls for the removal of 18 Emigrant Wilderness check dams.

The ruling states that the dams must decay naturally, and may not be repaired or maintained by the Stanislaus National Forest.

TuCare President Mike Albrecht says a compromise was originally reached with the US Forest Service to allow seven of the dams to deteriorate naturally and save the remaining eleven.

Albrecht has released a public letter stating,Today, despite the best efforts of Congressman Doolittle and his staff, countless hours of meetings between local environmental groups and wise-use advocates; despite a compromise decision by our Forest Supervisor to save some dams and let others go; despite ‘we the people´ working together to find solutions to problems in our backyard…an environmental group in Montana has brought it all to an end. They sued us, they sued our answers to our problems, and they won.”

TuCare, which stands for Tuolumne County Alliance for Resources and the Environment, is making a call for residents to contact Congressman Radanovich´s office with concerns.
