Angels Camp, CA — An abstinence speaker that caused some controversy for the Bret Harte High School District is appearing at the high school after all.
Speaker Jason Evert was planned for a school-wide assembly last year. Some parents were concerned over Evert´s possible religious message and there was an issue with improper notification. The assembly was cancelled.
This time the district is not at all involved with Evert´s trip.
Evert was invited to speak by the Calaveras Door of Hope, a San Andreas based non-profit, whose goal is to assist couples with crisis pregnancy and teach abstinence.
Londa Oller, with the Door of Hope, says to avoid controversy the event will be held after school.
Evert will speak at 1p.m. on March 21 in the Bret Harte High School upper gym.
