Sonora High Golden Regiment Band Will Meet Colorado Governor

Sonora, CA — The Sonora High Golden Regiment Band is headed to Denver, Colorado later this week.

Band Director Pat Sieben says 202 students will make the trip to perform in next Saturday´s St. Patrick´s Day Parade. The parade is considered the largest of its kind, west of the Mississippi River.

Shortly after marching through the downtown streets, the group will head over to the state capital to meet newly elected Governor Bill Ritter Jr. Sieben notes that Margaret Ritter, Bill´s stepmother, is a class of 1954 Sonora High graduate who played four years with the band.

Sieben says every two years the Golden Regiment takes a major trip. This one will be unique, however, because it is the furthest distance the group has ever traveled.

The band will stay at Erie High School, where former Sonora graduate Kendra Abernathy is now the music teacher. Part of the agreement, is that the band will play a pair of concerts while at the school.
