Sonora, CA — Coming up this evening at the Sonora City Council meeting, Sgt. Kevin Johnston of the Police Department will outline the two part Countywide School Incident Response Plan.
Johnston says the two parts consist of planning and training. At the present time approximately a quarter of the planning segment has been completed. Each school in the county has received a 30 page questionnaire. Maps and blueprints of each school will be catagorized. Law enforcement agencies will then conduct a tactical site survey of every school and determine how each school should be approached in the event of an emergency situation such as a shooting incident.
Johnston says the training program is further advanced. Powerpoint presentations have been made to a number of schools instructing administrative personnel, faculty and students on how to be on the lookout for potential explosive situations.
Johnston adds it´s a joint effort among members of the law enforcement community including the Sheriff´s Department and the Highway Patrol.
