Sonora, CA — In honor of the 150th anniversary of the California Medical Association and as a reflection upon the evolution of our current healthcare system, the Tuolumne County Medical Society and the County Health Department will host a two-and-a-half hour presentation this evening at the Sonora Opera Hall entitled “Mother Lode Medicine; Then and Now.”
One of the featured speakers will be County Health Officer Dr. Todd Stolp who will present a brief look at the future of medicine in Tuolumne County. Challenges posed by the changing face of healthcare financing in the U.S. will be explored. At this critical juncture for the history of local medical resources, many of the concerns raised by the prospect of the withdrawal of medical services at Tuolumne General Hospital will be considered. An introduction to local planning for health care emergencies will be provided and members of the public will be solicited for their participation in that planning.
Other speakers include Dr. Bob Perriere, a retired physician and chairperson of the Historical Committee of the California Medical Association. Dr. Perriere also serves as the curator of the Sierra-Sacramento Museum of Medical History in Sacramento. He will be introduced by the president of the Tuolumne County Medical Society, Dr. Ed Clinite.
Still another speaker is Jack Rucker who moved to the Mother Lode following World War II and served as a laboratory and x-ray technician at T.G.H. His career spanned a period of unprecedented medical discovery and is peppered with adventurous stories from an era long since past.
The presentation starts at 6PM and is free to the public.
