San Andreas, CA — To help deter crime in the Mokelumne Hill area, Calaveras County Sheriff Dennis Downum is proposing to open a substation in the heart of the community.
Residents have been urging local officials to step in after an increase in crime around the area´s cemeteries.
Downum says the office will help apprehend offenders and develop community policing programs tailored to the Mokelumne Hill community.
At its Tuesday meeting, the Calaveras Board of Supervisors will consider a one-year lease agreement for the substation on Center Street.
Also on the board agenda is a study session on an update of the Copperopolis Benefit Basin.
The board meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the county Government Center in San Andreas.
