Sonora, CA — According to CAL FIRE officials, the 2007 fire season officially opens today at 8am.
Burn permits, available at any CAL FIRE station, are a necessity for any burning. With the start of the new fire season, burning is only permitted between 7pm and 8am.
Monday, May 14 has been declared a NEGATIVE burn night in the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit.
When burning create a 100 ft. safety zone (defensible space) around your home. Rake leaves, dead limbs and twigs. Clear all flammable vegetation.
Follow local burning regulations.
Listen to the radio for reports and evacuation information. Follow the instructions of local officials.
Make plans to care for your pets in case you must evacuate.
If you are warned that a wildfire is threatening the area, arrange for temporary housing at a friend or relatives home outside the area.
