Angels Camp, CA — A Memorial Fund in behalf of the Jared Poortinga family has been established by the Angels Camp Peace Officers´ Association.
P.O.A. Vice President David Scarborough announced Monday that the fund has been established at Pacific State Bank, 501 S. Main Street, Angels Camp. Checks can be made out to either Susan Poortinga or IN LOVING MEMORY OF JARED POORTINGA.
Contributions can be dropped off at any Pacific State branch or mailed to Pacific State Bank, P.O. Box 1649, Stockton, CA 95201.
The 30 year old five year veteran of the Angels Camp Police Department was killed Saturday morning in a motorcycle accident on Murphys Grade Rd. west of upper French Gulch when he leaned into a curve. When the bike´s frame struck the pavement Poortinga lost control of the 2007 Yamaha TZ1. The bike crossed over the double yellow center line where it collided with a vehicle driven by 45 year old Ann Kemmer of Petaluma.
Both drivers were well within the speed limit and no alcohol was inovlved. Poortinga was dressed in full protective gear and was followed by one of his brothers.
Jared´s two brothers are also in the law enforcement field. Steve is the president of the Angels Camp Peace Officers´ Association and Chad is employed by the Calaveras County Sheriff´s Department.
