Bret Harte Football Team Raises $2700 For Poortinga Family

Angels Camp, CA — In reaction to the death of local police officer Jared Poortinga May 19, the Bret Harte football team rallied together to raise funds for the officer´s family.

Poortinga died on a Saturday while driving his 2007 Yamaha motorcycle on Murphys Grade Road. He was off duty at the time.

Poortinga was a 5-year veteran of the Angels Camp Police Department where he was a field training officer and range master. He is survived by his wife Susan Poortinga and three children.

A carwash benefiting the family was held last Friday.

Coach Scott Edwards says approximately 35 varsity football players volunteered their time towards the effort.

A little more than $2700 was raised for the family, which will go into a memorial fund set up at Pacific State Bank.
