San Andreas, Ca — A Caltrans lawnmower has been ruled the cause of Monday afternoon´s 220 acre vegetation fire off Hwy 4 near Dunton Rd. in Stanislaus County.
According to CAL Fire Information Officer Barbara George, it is believed that the mower struck a rock which caused a spark. Caltrans will now have to reimburse CAL FIRE for all suppression expenses.
Resources used include Air Attack 440, Copter 404, Tankers 82 & 83, nine engines, a water tender, a dozer and two hand crews.
The fire was reported at 1:22pm and suppressed at 10:23pm. Elapsed time; nine hours and one minute.
