Sonora And Angels Camp Bypass Projects Receive Final Funding

Sonora, Ca — Through money made available by Proposition B, the California Transportation Commission has allocated the final funding needed to construct a pair of major road projects in the Mother Lode.

Tuolumne County Transportation Council Executive Director Peter Rei announced at this morning´s Board of Supervisors meeting that an additional $27.5 million has been allocated for the East Sonora Bypass Stage II. He noted that the project received $17 million from Proposition B in February, bringing the total to nearly $45 million.

Rei said that Stage II, which will extend the bypass to Via Este, is scheduled to begin construction in summer of 2010.

This afternoon, Calaveras Council of Governments Executive Director Tim McSorley confirmed that the Angels Camp Bypass has also been allocated more funding from the Transportation Commission.

“Calaveras County received $6.06 million,” says McSorley.That is the final funding necessary for construction of the project.” The $56 million project is expected to begin later this year.
