West Point, CA — Several residents whose homes are in much need of repair are in jeopardy of losing money that´s available to fix them.
Tuesday the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors heard about the situation during an update on the Community Development Block Grant program.
Through the program, housing rehabilitation money was made available to homes on Indian Trust Land in West Point. However, the Bureau of Indian Affairs says the applicants lack the appropriate ownership agreements and paperwork. County staff says this has caused a stalemate and the work cannot be done.
Supervisor Steve Wilensky has called for a special meeting with the applicants to explain that they must work out the lease agreements before the grant ends in December.
Wilensky says many of the homes are in catastrophic and hazardous condition.
