Sonora, CA — Smoke from the Moonlight Fire in Plumas County and the Lick Fire in Santa Clara County continues to choke the northern portion of the Valley and infilitrate the Mother Lode.
As of 7pm Thursday, the Moonlight Fire, six miles north of Greenville and 170 miles north of Modesto, had consumed 28,460 acres and was only 8% contained. Steep, rocky terrain and erratic high winds have hampered the efforts of almost 2,000 firefighters.
The human caused Henry Coe State Park Lick Fire near Mt. Hamilton has now burned 27,000 acres and is listed by CAL FIRE officials at 35% contained with 1,900 firefighters on site.
The current cost of fighting these two fires is $5.3 million.
