Glencoe, CA — A former Calaveras High School student was out looking for a Christmas tree late last week at a farm on Ridge Rd. in Glencoe when she recognized something familiar, a large ceremonial bell used by the school while she was a student in the 1980´s.
The woman then contacted the Calaveras County Sheriff´s Department. School Resource Deputy Rick DiBasillio followed up, and recovered the 300 lbs. bell.
According the Sheriff´s Department, the bell was retired by the school in 1986, and was believed to be in storage. School officials were unaware that the bell was missing, and added that it was not given away to anyone in the community. There was also no permission granted to remove the bell from school property.
The Calaveras County Sheriff´s Department is encouraging anyone with information regarding the case of the missing bell to contact Deputy Rick DiBasillio at 754-6500.
