Casino Opponents Say Flooding Shows Site Is A Bad Fit For Project

Rohnert Park, CA — Opponents of a proposed Sonoma County casino say excessive flooding on the site last week shows it´s a mistake to build the casino in a flood prone area.

Up to three feet of water covered parts of the property in Rohnert Park during the New Year´s flooding. Opponents say building a casino and resort would cause more runoff and contribute to floods.

Proponents say there are ways to reduce flooding. They say Station Casinos of Las Vegas has purchased enough land to build a casino that´s safe from flooding.

The National Indian Gaming Commission is performing an environmental review of the project.
