Sacramento, CA — Legislation authored by Assemblyman Dave Cogdill designed to curb production of methamphetamine has been killed by the Assembly Public Safety Committee.
Assembly Bill 1063 would have outlawed the possession of more than a half pound of ephedrine or pseudoephedrine.
The substances are found in common over-the-counter cold medicines and are the main ingredient in methamphetamine. Two other similar measures have also been rejected.
Although there are restrictions in place on the purchase of excessive amounts of cold medicine, there are no limits pertaining to possession.
The measure required four votes to pass out of committee. It was defeated this week by a three to two margin with two abstentions.
