Modesto, CA — A CHP Officer who was hit by a truck while working an accident last week on Highway 49 has had his legs amputated.
Officials say 45-year-old Mike Remmel remains at Doctor´s Medical Center in Modesto in serious but stable condition.
Remmel was said to be in good spirits yesterday vowing to return to duty. One leg was amputated at the knee while the other was removed just below the knee cap.
Officers say the quick work of two tow truck drivers on the scene probably saved Remmel´s life.
Doctors say Remmel has undergone three surgeries and is scheduled for more.
A trust fund has been set up to help defray the costs associated with the accident. Anyone wishing to donate can do so at either branch of the Bank of America.
