San Andreas, CA — The Calaveras County Sheriff´s Department is being sued by a former San Francisco cop claiming sexual discrimination.
Ken Cantamout filed the claim in San Francisco Federal Court earlier this month. He says Sheriff Dennis Downum refused to hire him based on an assumption about his sexual orientation.
The lawsuit follows an unsuccessful claim filed last year in which Cantamout stated the same case. It was rejected unanimously by the Board of Supervisors, giving Cantamout six months to file a lawsuit.
At the time, Sheriff Dennis Downum said there were other reasons the man was not hired.
A case management conference is set for 9 a.m. July 11 in San Francisco.
