San Andreas, CA — Steven Abernathy of West Point has been formally charged with shooting a Glencoe woman last month.
Authorities say Abernathy turned himself in Saturday for the attempted murder of Shana Sakata. Sakata was shot once in the face at a home in West Point. She was treated and released for her injuries.
At an arraignment Tuesday Abernathy was charged with unlawful assault with a firearm, destroying or concealing documentary evidence and dissuading a witness.
A bail hearing will take place April 10 at 3 p.m. in Department 2 of Calaveras County Superior Court. A preliminary hearing will take place April 20 at 2 p.m. also in Department 2.
Abernathy´s bail was decreased from $500,000 to $340,000. He remains in the Calaveras County Jail.
