Valley Springs, CA — State and federal officials have assessed the Peachtree irrigation pond in the La Contenta subdivision and are calling for an immediate fix.
The state Department of Water Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers assessed the damage that recent storms had on the golf course´s 3-acre holding pond.
They found immediate restoration was needed to avoid failure. CDF crews are now working to contain spillage by laying plastic and sandbagging the area.
150 homes below the pond were evacuated Tuesday night when it seemed dam failure was eminent. 60-100 homes remain under that evacuation order. Shelters are set up at the Veterans Hall and Valley Springs Elementary School.
Other holding ponds in the county are being evaluated.
Countywide road closures include Pettinger Road, and a few roads in the Diamond XX subdivision. Chile Camp Road is passable with caution.
Sandbags are available at CDF and the Government Center in San Andreas, in Jenny Lind at the Public Works Yard and at Foothill Fire Station.
