Sonora, CA — A new addition is on its way to the Columbia Airport, and officials couldn´t be happier.
If the weather permits, the Grumman S-2A air tanker will be flying in from Sacramento on Friday. The air tanker has been used by CDF for many years helping to put out fires throughout California.
The aircraft was actually stationed at the Columbia airport several years ago, and helped protect the land in Tuolumne County. Once here, the aircraft will be set for display for the public to view and will be the main attraction during the 40th annual Father´s Day Fly In this June.
Airport Director Jim Thomas says he and others have been trying hard to get the aircraft for 18 months. Many others in the community including the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors and local firefighters supported the effort.
