(Staff Report- Amador Ledger Dispatch) -More than 200 feet of the Amador Water Canal collapsed Saturday morning after the hillside it was located on gave way prompting the Amador Water Agency to set up 2000 feet of pipe as a temporary fix.
Quick acton by the Amador Water Agency along with water conservation by local customers over the weekend means the Mandatory Water Conservation Order has been lifted. The Agency has made temporary repairs to the Canal failure and water is now flowing into the Tanner Water Treatment Plant facility. All raw and treated water customers in Jackson, Sutter Creek, Ione, Drytown and Amador City may resume normal water use.
The Agency has installed pumping facilities and approximately 2,000 feet of temporary 12 inch water main around the Canal failure site located just east of the Tanner. This temporary pipeline will supply approximately 6 cfs, or 2800 gallons per minute to the Tanner facility. During these cool temperatures, this water supply will suffice in meeting the needs of the customers. During the next 30 days, the Agency will be installing additional piping to meet the longer term needs of the system through the summer and peak day demand needs.
The Amador Water Agency sincerely appreciates the efforts of our customers to conserve water throughout this major emergency. Without their efforts we may not have been able to maintain emergency levels of water.
