Sacramento, CA — About 200 people were forced to evacuate a terminal at Sacramento International Airport Wednesday after a chemical smell sickened several people.
Hazardous materials teams who responded to the morning incident think a passenger might have released pepper spray in an area that serves United and American airlines. Airport spokeswoman Karen Doron says several people reported eye irritation and coughing. Airport officials reopened the terminal wing at 12:45 PM.
Doron says several passengers told authorities they had attended a safety conference in Sacramento where the instructor handed out pepper spray during a self-defense orientation.
