San Andreas, CA — Volunteerism and community activism don´t go unnoticed in Calaveras County.
The Calaveras County Commission on Aging and Board of Supervisors Monday held a lunch recognizing a special group of senior citizens.
But only two were given the distinct award of Senior Of The Year. Former Supervisor Lucy Thein and Lloyd Stoneking were chosen as this year´s honorees.
Thein was recognized for her efforts with Habitat for Humanity Calaveras. Every year she hosts the group´s largest fundraiser, the Killer Yard Sale, at her bed and breakfast in San Andreas. This year´s sale starts Thursday and runs through Sunday.
Stoneking was recognized for his work with the Calaveras Senior Center where he´s known as the shelf man for installing much needed shelf work there. Stoneking also calls Bingo at the center, helps with spaghetti dinners and volunteers in the See´s candy booth.
