Sonora, CA — A single mother of three is looking forward to kissing rental properties goodbye after being chosen for a Habitat for Humanity home.
Several board members gathered in downtown Sonora Tuesday evening for what Denice McKenzie thought was just another round of questioning for the prospective families.
Much to her surprise, the meeting turned out to be all about her and her three daughters. After a few minutes of questions McKenzie got emotional when she was trying to explain to the board how much the home would mean to her family.
As she sat with her family facing the crowd, McKenzie heard the news she had been hoping for.
She will soon be the owner of a Habitat for Humanity home in Ponderosa Hills.
McKenzie says as a single mom she would never have been able to buy a home without the help of habitat, which sells homes through a no-interest mortgage.
