Disaster Preparedness; California Poorly Ranked

Washington, D.C. — A new Department of Homeland Security report says the state of California is not fully prepared to meet the challenges of a major disaster.

The report rated the state as only “partially sufficient” in its ability to respond to a catastrophic event. The report scored each of the 50 states, 75 major cities and six U-S territories based on evacuation plans, medical care, public warning systems and other emergency services.

Only 10 states had sufficient disaster response plans. The report says the majority of states, cities and territories were unprepared for terror attacks, natural disasters and other large emergencies.
