Sonora, CA — Tuolumne County department heads, are for the most part, knee deep in the preliminary 2006-2007 fiscal year budget that was issued Tuesday by Administrator C. Brent Wallace.
One of those is Recreation Director Mike Russell who is looking at the closure of the Tuolumne, Jamestown and Groveland youth centers effective September 30. These centers have been open for the past 29 years.
Russell says that some 750 youngsters will be directly affected by the closure. In addition, three full-time employees will be laid off at the centers.
Also the planned construction of the Groveland Youth Center will be deferred.
