Angels Camp, CA — Visitors at the popular New Melones Lake will be seeing some extra law enforcement on hand.
The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors Monday approved a new contract with the Bureau of Reclamation to provide a full time Sheriff´s Deputy to patrol New Melones Lake.
The bureau says visitation can be heavy at times and it doesn´t have the authority to properly handle the problems that arise.
Last year a contract was in place for weekend patrol.
Undersheriff Mike Walker says the bureau liked the service so much they want a full time deputy now.
Walker says he will be working with Human Resources to fill the new position.
The contract is worth $500,000 and is good for 4 years.
