Copperopolis, CA — Calaveras County officials Monday ordered the continuation of engineering work on the O´Byrnes Ferry Bridge.
When the bridge was determined functionally obsolete by Caltrans last year a consultant was hired to study whether to improve upon the existing structure or start from scratch.
The bridge spans the Stanislaus River at Lake Tulloch connecting Tuolumne and Calaveras counties.
Recent findings have determined it should be completely replaced.
The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors Monday OK´d having the consultant continue 8 months of work on engineering the new bridge.
The $500,000 contract for work will include determining what type of bridge should be built and where it will go.
A community meeting will be held to find out what the public would like to see in the design.
After the alignment is figured out, an Environmental Impact Statement will need to be produced.
The project is 90 percent funded by the federal government and 10 percent by local match.
