Pedro, Michael “Mike”

Published Aug 26, 2026 12:23 pm

Michael Kenneth “Mike” Pedro, 70, died at his home in Sonora, California on August 8, 2026.

Mr. Pedro was born Michael Kenneth Flynn on June 5, 1956 in Los Angeles, California to his parents Michael Wayne Flynn and Lonnie Lea Smathers.  Sadly, their marriage had to be annulled and Lonnie returned with Mike to Sonora, California.  Back in her hometown, Lonnie met and married Robert (Bob) Pedro.  Mike was subsequently adopted and became known as Mike Pedro.  Mike was the eldest of six children who were lovingly raised by Bob and Lonnie Pedro.

Mike graduated from Sonora Elementary School and Sonora High School.  During his early years, Mike enjoyed the Cub Scouts, discovered his love for the arts and music and came to faith in Jesus.  As an adult, Mike lived in the Washington D.C. area, Phoenix, Minneapolis and ultimately back in Sonora.  His work was equally diverse ranging from being a cook to management in the hospitality, convenience store, hardware and import industries before settling into independent contracting (e.g., building and office furnishing design, remodeling, and maintenance).  Not to be forgotten, Mike’s love of music compelled him to look for opportunities to play drums for local bands whenever he could.

Mike and Nancy (Ritchie) Amity were married on October 21, 1978 and had one child together, Kenneth Michael Pedro.  Mike and Ritchie divorced 7 years later while residing in Minneapolis.  Ritchie remarried and Kenny was adopted by his stepfather David Medeiros.  Despite the divorce, Mike always respected and cared for Ritchie and deeply loved his son.

Mr. Pedro is survived by his son Kenny Medeiros, granddaughter Olivia Medeiros, siblings: Chris Pedro; Craig Pedro; Michelle Pedro; Lisa (Pedro) Anderson; and Mara (Pedro) Courtroul, and numerous nephews and nieces.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A private graveside service will be held at the family plot at the Columbia City Cemetery.
