Roland “Bob” Meredith Elliott II, 90, resident of Groveland since 1978 passed away peacefully on the evening of October 31, 2023. Roland was born on June 16, 1933 in Hollywood, California to parents Roland Meredith Elliott I and Merle Vera Elliott (nee Chapman). His one sibling, James Russell Elliott is now deceased.
As a young man Roland had a number of interests: he enjoyed the Boy Scouts and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He swam and played water polo in high school. He played trumpet professionally part time as a youth and enjoyed playing and listening to music his entire life. He graduated from Lynwood High School, Lynwood, California (South Los Angeles). Roland was drawn to the stories and books of the old west. He dreamed of being a cowboy. This led to an extensive knowledge and collection of fire arms, as well as leisure time spent at shooting ranges and competitions.
He was inducted into the army in February of 1953 then served at Fort Ord, CA in the 6th Infantry Division. He received a National Defense Service Medal and a Rifle M-1 Expert. He was in the special services until he was honorably discharged for medical reasons in June of 1954. Although he served a relatively short term, Roland was proud to have served.
After leaving the Army, he earned an AA degree from San Jose City College. In addition, he obtained and held a real estate and a broker’s license. He opened his own San Jose real estate firm, Elliott Enterprises–which he moved to Groveland, Ca in 1978. During these early years in San Jose he met and married his first wife, Sandra Elliott (nee Deem) and raised four children: Kimberly Gale Elliott (deceased); Scott Oller Elliott; Darin Russell Elliott; Samantha Elliott.
Upon divorcing, leaving San Jose and moving to Groveland, Roland bought a property and began building his home. During that process he met and married Dale LaTorre Elliott (nee Hammes) in 1981.
Roland is survived by three of his four children; his six grandchildren: Shannon Pappazisis (Hammond); Wesley Hammond; Tristan Elliott; Jordan Elliott; Robin Elliott; Gideon Elliott and two great grandchildren: Kassia Pappazisis; Ronan Pappazisis.
A memorial is planned for his birthday next year at Clark’s Fork, giving the distant members of his family a chance to unite in his memory.
