William Allan McElwaine better know as Billy, passed away November 16, 2024. He was 83 years old. Born July 8th 1941 to William and Helen McElwaine of Walnut Creek, California. The family moved to Concord, CA in 1948. Billy married Beatrice Bulter August 16th 1980 in Sonora, California. What a team, he a Master Carpenter and her a Master Gardener. He graduated from Mt Diablo High School on a Friday in June 1959, then joined the Carpenters Union the following Monday. He retired from the Union in 2004. Soon after High School he started going to the Jacksonville/ Moccasin area on the weekends. In 2004 he sold his home in Concord and moved to Moccasin, California fulltime.
He was preceded in death by his parents William (Jack) and Helen McElwaine, his wife Bea and brother Bobby McElwaine. He is survived by the great Butler Clan of 2 daughters, 2 sons, 10 grandkids, and 20 great grandkids plus 1 great great grandchild! And also, Kay Hatler and brother John (Jackie) McElwaine.
Over his 83 years he earned the Silver Award in Explorer Scouts, same as Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts. He excelled in wood working in high school having several pieces of furniture displayed at the State Fair. Also, while in high school he built a 16’ ski boat in the backyard. After high school working weekends on a ranch in the Jacksonville/ Moccasin area he got started in the cattle raising business and retired from that in 2010. Tuesday nights in Concord he was the Instructor for the Jr. Rifle Club. He was a member of the Club when his dad started it in 1955. Billy took over in the mid 60’s.
