Burning Of Hazardous Fuels To Begin In Valley Springs

Valley Springs, CA — California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will set ablaze over 50 acres of hazardous fuels near New Hogan Lake in Calaveras County at the beginning of next week, and smoke will be visible.

The site of the prescribed burn is the New Hogan Vegetation Management Project (VMP) in the vicinity of Silver Rapids Road and Hogan Dam Road within the community of Rancho Calaveras and south of Highway 26. The CAL Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit will be completing hazardous fuel reduction burning on Monday, October 13th, and Tuesday, October 14th, 2025.

“The treatment area encompasses approximately 60 acres,” according to CAL Fire.

The burn is scheduled to begin between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. It is expected to last 6 to 8 hours each day. During these times, smoke or fire may be visible in this area. CAL Fire officials added that firefighters will continue to patrol the burn area until the fire is fully extinguished.
