Sonora, CA – Two mountain passes have reopened, but one remains temporarily closed after a storm blew through the region on Wednesday (11/5).
Caltrans, which oversees Highway 108 Sonora Pass in Tuolumne County and Ebbetts Pass in Alpine County, reports that both roadways reopened at 2 p.m. today (Thursday, November 6, 2025) after maintenance crews advised that the road conditions were safe. As we reported here, these passes were closed at noon on Tuesday (11/4) in anticipation of the winter storm that brought snow to the high country and heavy rain in lower elevations. Caltrans reminds motorists that they should always carry chains/traction devices in their vehicles when traveling on mountain roadways and especially during this time of year.
Yosemite National Park, which maintains Highway 120 Tioga Pass, waited to see what conditions the winter blast would bring. It was closed yesterday and remains closed as of this posting, with park officials offering no indication as to when it may reopen.
