Sonora, CA — An emergency exercise is planned for Thursday ahead of the summer fire season.
At 11 am, Tuolumne County officials will activate the outdoor sirens in Groveland, Tuolumne, Twain Harte, Cold Springs, and Strawberry. They are used to notify residents and visitors about the need to evacuate the area. In addition, the county will be sending out alerts to phones through the Everbridge system.
At today’s board of supervisor meeting, Assistant OES Director Dore Bietz stated, “We want to make sure that the public is ready (for an emergency), so those who have not signed up, we prefer that you opt into Everbridge.”
County officials stress that Thursday is only a drill, so there is no need to call 9-11 unless someone has an actual emergency. The Tuolumne County Public Information line will be operational on Thursday so that people can ask questions or provide feedback at 209-533-5151.
