Update: Dove Fire Ignites Near Sonora

Update at 8:20 p.m.: We continue to monitor the Dove Fire between Sonora and Jamestown near the Washington Fire burn scar. It is 223 acres, with zero containment, and ignited between MillVilla Road and Stockton Road, on Highway 108, according to the CHP. CAL FIRE spokesperson Emily Kilgore tells Central Sierra Broadcasting that two firefighters have been injured but did not give specifics. She noted that they were transported for evaluation by medical personnel. “The Dove Fire is now under unified command,” stated Kilgore, with CAL FIRE TCU working together with Sonora City Fire, Sonora Police, and the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office.

Additionally, Highway 49/North Washington Street has reopened to Bradford Street in Downtown Sonora. Kilgore added that they do not know the number of structures involved, as they have not been able to make an assessment. Crews will continue to work on laying hose lines around the flames while working to gain containment throughout the night. What ignited the fire is under investigation. There is a large law enforcement presence in Downtown Sonora with officers patrolling the streets in evacuated areas. Update at 6:59: The Dove Fire is burning between Sonora and Jamestown near the Washington Fire burn scar. The flames broke out along Highway 108 and Mill Villa Road. The fire is 166 acres with no containment. What ignited the fire is under investigation. Numerous firefighting air tankers from throughout the state are flying fire suppression missions as conditions allow, according to CAL FIRE. The resources on scene include:

• Hand Crews 5
• Total Personnel: 225

Update below written by BJ Hansen at 5:27 pm: PG&E reports that there are nearly 2,000 customers are without power near the Dove Fire. There is no estimated restoration time.

Update at 5:23 pm: The Dove Fire is currently holding at 166 acres. There are mandatory evacuation orders (leave now) on McKibbon Drive, Golden Dove Lane, Crooked Lane, Southgate Rd. Stockton Rd, Silver Pine Ln, Washington to Lowe’s, North Side of Mono to Washington, Golden Dove. The Silos (on Washington St) to Hospital Rd, Beretta St. from Washington/Restano/Mono to Lyons Rd.

Update at 4:44 pm: Officials battling the Dove Fire report that it has grown to around 166 acres. Mandatory EVACUATIONS are taking place for the following areas:

Mandatory evacuation orders are in place for McKibbon Drive, Golden Dove Lane, Crooked Lane, Southgate Rd, Stockton Rd, Silver Pine Ln, Washington to Lowe’s, North Side of Mono to Washington, Golden Dove, The Silos (on Washington St) to Hospital Rd.

Evacuation warnings are in place from S Washington St. to Barretta St., Martha Ln, Outlook Dr, South Stewart St, South Shepherd St, South Beretta St, Washington St from Highway 108 to the Red Church (Shell St)

Update at 4:07 pm: The Dove Fire is estimated to be around 75-100 acres and has been moving at a dangerous rate of spread. The evacuation orders below remain in place.

Update at 4:02 pm:  Dove Fire Evacuation orders are now in place along McKibbon Drive, Golden Dove Lane, Crooked Lane, Southgate Rd, Stockton Rd, Silver Pine Ln, Washington Street to Lowe’s, North Side of Mono Way to Washington Street, The Silos (on Washington Street to Hospital Road) and Golden Dove.

Update at 3:46 pm: The Dove Fire remains around 50 acres and moving at a dangerous rate of spread. The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office says there are now mandatory evacuation orders on McKibbon Drive, Golden Dove Lane, Crooked Lane, Southgate Road and along Stockton Road.

Update at 3:34 pm: The Dove Fire is now 50 acres, according to CAL Fire. The earlier evacuation orders remain in place. It continues to burn at a dangerous rate of spread.

Original story posted at 3:12 pm: Sonora, CA — There is a vegetation fire between Sonora and Jamestown near the Washington Fire burn scar.

It is between Mill Villa Road and Stockton Road, according to the CHP.

The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office says there are mandatory evacuation orders on McKibbon Drive, Golden Dove Lane, and Crooked Lane.

CAL Fire reports that it is approximately 10 acres and moving at a dangerous rate of spread. Highway 108 is closed near Stockton Road, and vehicles are being turned around. Travelers will want to avoid the area.
