First Weekend of August Events

It is the first weekend in August, and there are a few events planned for August 1^st and 2^nd, 2026 as well as a Fundraiser Dinner for Madison Borges and the Borges Family on Wednesday August 5th.

Friday is Movie Night in at the Tuolumne Branch Library hosted by Tuolumne Parks and Recreation District. This Friday the movie shown is Minecraft at 8:30 PM with free admission supported by concession stand sales, bench seating is available, or bring your beach chairs and blankets for the grass seating area. The Annual White Pines Flea Market has been going since the 1970’s and is the primary source of fundraising to keep Independence Hall Community Center up and running. The event also helps the community by providing high quality clothes, housewares, and outdoor materials for low costs. Event organizers state they are hoping to raise enough funds to allocate money for a new roof which is in desperate need of repairs. Details are in the event listing here.

Southside Community Connections in Groveland is hosting a Community Rummage Sale. Shop home goods, clothing, small appliances, collectibles, and more. Doors open at 9 a.m., come early for the best selection. More details are here.

The 2026 Wildcat Kickoff Dinner this Saturday is a fundraising event for the Sonora High School Foundation, athletics, and clubs. Doors open at 5:30 PM at Davis Ranch on Haystack Road in East Sonora. The night includes dinner, dancing and auctions. Tickets are available from any Sonora High School Foundation Board member or at the door.

Tuolumne County Youth Soccer (TCYS) is kicking off the fall soccer season with the inaugural Soccer Fest 2026 this Saturday at Standard Park. The free open house is designed to bring families, players, and coaches together for a day of soccer fun, games, connection, and local engagement from 8 AM – 2 PM.

The 33rd annual Bear Valley Music Festival is celebrating America 250 with three weeks of music from classic rock to a symphony orchestra planned as detailed here. Tonight, celebrate the music of Linda Ronstadt with Ronstadt Revival, a tribute band fronted by Shannon Rae. Friday enjoy an evening of Viennese drama and grandeur with internationally acclaimed pianist Joyce Yang. Hollywood’s Golden Age will feature music that shaped cinema history on Saturday at 5:00 PM. The last concert performance will be Pines of Rome on Sunday at 2:00 PM with Maestro Mickelthwate and the Bear Valley Festival Orchestra with music from Italy to the American West. The performance includes the Columbia College Choir and violinist Yiyang Hou.

The UCCE Tuolumne County Master Gardeners will be holding an Open Garden Day at the Demonstration Garden on Saturday from 10AM – 1PM. This month they will discuss Summer Dwarf Pruning. There will again be free compost available at the garden – just load your own containers or truck and the Master Gardeners will offer soil texture and pH testing of your soil, just bring a sample with you.

Twain Harte Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2026 Summer Concert Series at Eproson Park. Held every Saturday night from 6 – 8 PM, this Saturday Breakaway will perform, view the event listing here for the list of musicians featured this season. The concerts are free, bring your chairs and dancing shoes. Later in the evening at 8 PM nearby at Local Press, King Hippo will perform. The summer season list is here.

Join Around The Horn and ROOFBB for an evening of great food and drinks, community fun, and charitable giving at Madison’s Backyard Benefit Bash as the community comes together to help 23-month-old Madison Borges in her fight against brain cancer. The event will be held Wednesday, August 5 from 5 PM – 9 PM as detailed here.

Fresh produce, handmade goods, unique treasures from local farmers, artisans, and young entrepreneurs will be found at local farmers’ markets: The Twain Harte Mountain Air Market continues weekly on Thursdays from 4 – 7 PM at Eproson Park. Tonight the music is by Tristan. This Friday is the Angels Camp Farmers’ Market from 4:30 – 7:30 PM at Utica Park with music by the McCarthy Brothers. Saturday morning the Sonora Farmers Market will be open from 7:30 – 11 AM. Sunday morning from 9 AM – 1 PM is the Murphys Park Farmers Market at Murphys Park.

Sierra Repertory Theater is performing “Great Balls of Fire” a celebration of rock’s earliest days held at the East Sonora location through August 9.

CSTARS will present its 31st production with a cast of over 50 local youths performing The Wizard of Oz. This  weekend, Friday 7pm, Saturday 2pm and 7pm, Sunday 2pm. More details are here.

Off the Wall Youth Theatre Troup is performing “The Jungle Book” in San Andreas. Performances will continue through August 9.

Calaveras County Arts Council presents the Music in the Parks Summer Concert Series at a different park each week. Next week, Wednesday August 5 from 6:30 – 8 PM, bring your favorite food, beverages, blankets and lawn chairs to the free concert by the Penetrators in the Murphys Park.

On Wednesday August 5 at the West Side Memorial Park in downtown Tuolumne City the market opens at 5 PM with swing and soul music by Donnie and the Way Rads from 6 PM – 8 PM.
