Vegetation and structure fire near Highway 4 in Angels Camp area of Calaveras County—PG&E camera
Update at 2:30 p.m.: Fire crews have quickly stopped the forward spread of the Gelding Fire burning off Highway 4 in the Angels Camp area near the Gann Fire footprint. CAL FIRE spokesperson Emily Kilgore reports that crews remain on scene working to extinguish a structure fire on the property.
The blaze ignited in the one o’clock hour in the 200 block of Gelding Road. Right on the eastern perimeter of the Gann Fire. The flame’s forward rate of spread was stopped at an estimated one and a half acres. Crews will continue to work towards full containment of the blaze and then mop up. What ignited the fire is under investigation.
Original post at 1:50 p.m.: Angels Camp, CA—Air and ground resources are working on a second vegetation fire in the Angels Camp area off Highway 4.
There are reportedly also several vehicles on fire. Dubbed the Gelding Fire, it ignited in the 200 block of Gelding Road. Right on the eastern perimeter of the Gann Fire. A black plume of smoke rises in the sky, as shown in the image box. The fire is moving at a slow rate of spread and is an estimated half-acre in size, with structures threatened, according to CAL FIRE. We’ll update you as soon as new information comes into the newsroom.
