Giudici Anticipated To Win Calaveras Supervisor Race Following Untimely Death

Published Nov 4, 2026 8:05 am

Valley Springs, CA — The late Bruce Giudici holds a strong lead in the Calaveras District Five Board of Supervisors race.

We reported earlier that Giudici was campaigning door-to-door on August 30 when he fell and suffered a serious head injury. He died the following day. Giudici’s campaign leaders decided to proceed forward in his memory.

Giudici had earlier been the top vote-getter in the June Primary election when he and former Supervisor Clyde Clapp advanced to a November runoff.

After all initial ballots were tabulated on Election Night (November 3), Giudici had 1,459 votes (57%) to Clapp’s 1,092 votes (43%).

Calaveras Clerk-Recorder Rebecca Turner relays that there are approximately 4,500 vote-by-mail ballots remaining to be counted (only a fraction will be specific to the District 5 race). The ballots were collected from ballot drop boxes, vote centers, and the mail received on Election Day. Ballots postmarked on or before November 3, 2026, and received by November 10, 2026, will continue to be processed and counted.

Assuming that Giudici holds onto his comfortable lead, the District 5 Supervisor seat would be filled by the Governor.
