When thousands of people were evacuated from San Francisco International Airport last week, security officials were left with only grainy video footage of the man who
caused the problem.
Somewhere in the video is a man whose shoes set off explosive-detecting alarms.
An airport spokesman said the poor footage could only reveal a man whose description fit half the people at the airport.
There were not enough details to narrow down the search any further.
Airport officials realized immediately they needed to upgrade the video surveillance system if it was to be worth its salt in security.
This Tuesday, San Francisco Airport commissioners may vote on a plan to make those upgrades at an estimated cost of five million dollars.
San Francisco´s airport has one-thousand cameras on the premises, but they were installed in the 1970s and many of them are now broken or have poor optical quality.
