Young Climber Raises Money Climbing “”El Cap””

An 11 year-old Brentwood boy climbed Yosemite´s famed El Capitan peak to raise money for families of
rescuers lost in the World Trade Center terrorist attack.

Scott Cory and two partners reached the summit of the 3200 foot sheer wall in just under 14
hours, topping out about 6 p.m.

“He started out lightning fast and then started to drag,´´ said his father, Jim Cory. “The heat was coming up, and he
was slowing down.´´

But after a fellow climber radioed encouragement to the boy, he “sucked it up´´ and started moving fast, his father
said.

Cory hoped the climb would raise 100,000 dollars.

Last month, Scott Cory became the youngest person ever to climb “El
Cap.´´

That climb took two nights and three days but was far more difficult and relied on technical climbing skills rather than hauling himself up a series
of ropes as he did Tuesday.
