Rim Fire Up To 75% Containment

Tuolumne County, CA — Officials report that there was not any noticeable growth on the Rim Fire overnight.


It stands at 235,841 acres, but did jump up to 75% containment. The number of firefighters on scene has fallen to 4,359. The total cost to combat the flames is up to $72 million.


More planned burnout operations will take place today, weather permitting. Smoke exposure and air quality will continue to be a concern for firefighters and the general public. An evacuation advisory remains in effect today for the south side of the Highway 108 corridor, from North Tuolumne Road to Pinecrest. Highway 120 at the Yosemite National Park boundary west to Buck Meadows has also been evacuated.


Highway 120 remains closed from Buck Meadows to 1 ½ miles east of White Wolf. Highway 120 from Ferretti Road to Buck Meadows remains open for local residents and businesses only. Highway 120/Tioga Road remains open from 1 ½ miles east of White Wolf to the Tioga Pass entrance. Cherry Lake Road is closed at Highway 120. Evergreen Road and Old Yosemite Road are also closed.
